There is just something about an old fashion wooden cutting board. They not only can be used for cutting, but they also can be used as decoration! Let me assist you on a perfect pattern and wood species!
Tasting the wood would seem pointless, but choosing a variety of wood would be a better option. Shown is maple and cherry wood. I have access to many different types of hardwoods to suite your needs. From maple to cherry to walnut to this wood named Sapele that looks like Mahagony. So many choices!
Dancing on your cutting board isn't recommended, but adding what they call a "juice groove" is and it adds a designer's touch and allows juices from food to run into the groove and helps keep cutting your items a little cleaner.
Let's face it, we try to take a handle on things and what happens? We let things slip. With an added handle you can assure you will have a little more grip on things. There are a handful of handle styles to help you grasp your board a little better.
The essential duty to any foot is to do what? Purposely run into the edge of furniture. Well, to be honest it's to keep things held up and stable. These feet are simple rubber that keeps your board stable and allows air to pass under to keep your board looking good!
Eventually a cutting board just simply wears out and could use a new surface. I simply take the board down to a new clean layer and simply reshape the outer edges and add some new oils to the board making it look as new as possible.
All cutting boards need to be oiled to maintain uniformity and cleanliness. Or in this case, you may find a cutting board in a barn and just want to revive it. I take the approach of just simply sanding the surface exposing the new wood and adding the appropriate oils.
Always use soap and water to clean your board. NEVER put it in the dishwasher.
I use straight mineral oil that you can buy in any convince store. NEVER use olive oil or any type of cooking oil. These oils go rancid and will destroy your board. After the mineral oil, I apply a treatment of mineral oil and beeswax to protect the outer layer and keep your board showing its true colors.
